| Abbot Ben Zhao |
|
Master
Ben Zhao, his birth and death dates unknown, was
the second abbot of the monastery. According to
Records of Jade Buddha Monastery by Ye Erkai,
Master Ben Zhao took over the mantle of Master
Hui Gen and became the successive abbot. He carried
on the aspiration of his master and sustained
the temple. He came to Beijing and brought a set
of sutra (Dragon Scriptures in Qing Dynasty) back
to the temple. So far the scriptures remain intact
without any damage and are worshipped in the Buddhist
Sutras Library. During the 1911 Revolution, the
Jade Buddha Temple at the Jiangwan Station was
occupied (or destroyed), and jade Buddha statues
were discarded in a park. Master Ben Zhao tried
his best to recover the temple, but he passed
away without fulfillment of his wish.
