The sixth abbot was Master Zhen Hua, from Xinghua, Jiangsu Province. His family name was Tang, first name Quan Xin, and his dharma name was Cheng Shi. His parents died when he was very young. At the age of 11, he became a monk and followed an elder Master Huai Lian in the Yuantong Temple in his hometown. Then the elder master sent him to a private school, where he often behaved outstandingly. He showed his interest in ancient and modern anecdotes, in addition he drew orchids and bamboo. In the spring of 1926, Master Zhen Hua¡¯s grand master, Elder Master Shuang Ting found him intelligent and asked him to study in the Yushan Buddhist College in the Chaoan Temple of Zhenjiang under the guidance of Master Shou Pei. The Yushan Buddhist College was founded by Master Shou Pei in the autumn of 1925 and made great contributions to the revival of Buddhism in modern time. In 1942, Master Zhen Hua was invited to take charge of the Shanghai Buddhist College and succeeded the abbot of Jade Buddha Monastery in May that year. He edited a monthly named Subtle Dharmacakra (Sridharmacakra) in the monastery in January 1943 and organized the Commemorative Association of Master Hong Yi in the same year. After the victory of Anti-Japanese War, he quitted the post of abbot to engage himself in the Buddhist research. In 1947, he passed away.
