As
the abbot, Master Ke Cheng invited
the distinguished Master Di Xian of
Tiantai Sect to give lectures on Sixteen
Guan Sutra (Aparimitayus-sutra)
and Leng Yan Sutra (Surangamasutra).
1929
China Buddhist Society
was founded in Shanghai, and Master
Ke Cheng was elected executive member,
and concurrently the executive member
of Shanghai Special City Buddhist
Society (attached to China Buddhist
Society).
1932
Master Ke Cheng passed
away, and Master Yuan Chen succeeded
him. He remained in office for ten
years.
1942
In May, Master Yuan
Chen retired and Master Zhen Hua succeeded
him as the 6th abbot. He concurrently
held the post of president of Shanghai
Buddhist College. He set up a Buddhist
library in the monastery and started
the publication of the Subtle
Dharmacakra Monthly.
1943
In January, together
with lay Buddhist Dou Cunwo, Xia Mianzun,
Master Zhen Hua and Bai Sheng initiated
to set up "Master Hong Yi Commemorative
Committee" in the monastery.
1944
Master Zhen Hua retired,
and Master Zhi Fang succeeded him.
