In
December, Master Wei Fang was elected
chief commissioner of the Buddhist
section, Shanghai Branch Commission,
for Resisting US Aggression and Aiding
Korea.
1952
In winter, Master
Xu Yun and other masters, ten in total,
came to the monastery to preside over
a ceremony in pray for world peace,
which lasted for 49 days.
Shanghai People's
Government allocated funds for repairing
the monastery.
1953
In February, Master
Xu Yun led monks and lay Buddhists
to practice and presided over a ceremony
of seven-day Chan practice.
1954
In August, Master
Wei Fang was elected delegate to the
first Shanghai Municipal People's
Congress.
In October, Japanese
academic and cultural delegation visited
the monastery.
1955
The tenth Panchen
Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyi Gyaincain
came to the monastery for laying hands
on the heads of Buddhists to bless
them.
