Shanghai
Buddhist Association held a ceremony
in the monastery to commemorate the
2,500 anniversary of the nirvana of
Buddha.
In September, an
international monks delegation of
India, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Nepal,
Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam
visited the monastery.
1957
In April, a visiting
group of Friendship Association between
India and China and a delegation from
Nepal visited the monastery.
In October, a delegation
of friendship envoys of Japanese Buddhism
visited the monastery.Later,Master
Ying Ci, the chief lecturer of Hua
Yan Sutra, stayed in the monastery
and gave lectures on the Eighty
Chapters of Avatamsakasutra.
1958
In March, a socialist
study seminar for principals of Han
nationality Buddhist communities in
East China, including five provinces
and one city, was held in the monastery
for a period of 55 days with 289 participants.
1963
Premier Zhou Enlai
accompanied the premier of Ceylon
(now Sri Lanka) to the monastery,
requesting monks to chant sutra for
the 64th birthday for her deceased
husband, the former premier.
