In
February, Master Zhen Chan attended
the 8th conference of Shanghai Political
Consultative Conference and continued
to be a member of the standing committee.
In March, Master
Zhen Chan went to Beijing to attend
the 8th conference of the National
Committee of Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference.The monastery
held a ceremony of preaching Buddhist
scriptures. Master Zhen Chan taught
the Three Conversions (the ceremony
of initiating a person to be a Buddhist).
In July, Master Zhen Chan was invited
to Singapore to give sermons.
In August, Master Zhen Chan was invited
to Hong Kong and Macao for study and
visit, as well as sermons.
A delegation led
by the premier of Thailand visited
the monastery.
In October, Master
Zhen Chan went to Beijing to attend
the 6th national congress of China
Buddhist Association and was elected
vice president.
In November, invited by Master Jing
Xin of the Guangde Monastery in Taiwan,
Master Zhen Chan visited Taiwan and
gave lectures. They visited more than
40 Buddhist temples and societies,
and talked about Buddhist development
between the main land and Taiwan.
The monastery published
the special issue of the Hundredth
Anniversary of the Founding of the
Jade Buddha Monastery.
In December, Master
Zhen Chan was invited to Hong Kong
to give sermons, and attended the
Buddhist ceremony held in the Baolian
Chan Monastery on the Dayu Mountain
and the opening ceremony for the Tiantan
Giant Buddha Statue.
