In October, Shanghai
Buddhist Association held its 7th
congress, and Master Zhen Chan continued
to hold the post of president.
The 17th generation
Living Buddha of Kargyupa (usu. The
White Sect) of Lamaism from Tibet
came to the monastery for worship.
In November, Master
Zhen Chan was invited to visit Manila,
the Philippines to give lectures.
The special reporter
for religion affairs Mr Amed from
UN Commission on Human Rights visited
the monastery.The president of Laos
Buddhist League visited the monastery.

In January, the consul general and
vice consul-general of Iran in Shanghai
visited the monastery.
In March, Master Zhen Chan was invited
to Indonesia for the ceremony of placing
the giant Buddha statue in the Xichan
Monastery, Dacong Mountain and the
international meeting of worshiping
Buddha and fasting monks.
In April, the president of Portugal
and his wife, the governor of Macao
and his wife visited the monastery.
In May, Master Zhen
Chan was invited to Hong Kong to attend
the 50th anniversary of the founding
of Hong Kong Buddhist Federation.
Master Zhen Chan
and Master Jue Xing joined the Shanghai
Buddhist Service Delegation to visit
Singapore.
