Master
Zhen Chan went to Beijing for the
friendly exchange conference of Buddhism
among China, Japan and South Korea.
In June, the Dutch premier's wife
visited the monastery.
In September, the
delegation of Hong Kong Buddhist Federation
led by Master Jue Guang visited the
monastery.
In October, Master
Zhen Chan and Master Jue Xing went
to Kaifeng, Henan Province to attend
three ceremonies, the 1,440th anniversary
of the founding of the Daxiangguo
Monastery, the 3rd anniversary of
the monastery's re-opening and the
3rd anniversary of friendship between
two Xiangguo monasteries in China
and Japan, and an auspicious ceremony
for saving being at land and in water
and the congratulatory ceremony for
the 80th birthday of Master Zhen Chan.
In November, the
monastery performed the opening ceremony
for thousands of jade and gold Buddha
statues, the ceremony of the 80th
birthday for Master Zhen Chan, a charity
donation ceremony and an auspicious
ceremony.
In December, Master Zhen Chan passed
away. The monastery organized a funeral
committee. On December 9, a memorial
meeting was held in the hall of Longhua
Funeral Parlor.
The monastery formed a leading group
consisting of Masters Ming Ru, Ai
Pu and Jue Xing to manage affairs
of the monastery.
In the same year,
Master Jue Xing was made deputy secretary-general
of Shanghai Buddhist Association.
