The
drawings of eight aspects of
the Sakyamuni Buddha¡¯s life
in 19 stone tablets, sixteen
arhats in 18 stone tablets drawn
by Guan Xiu of the Tang dynasty.
All these tablets are imbedded
on the walls of the Prajna Abbot
Room, the east and west corridors
and the Great Shrine Hall. The
Jade Buddha Monastery after
renovation looked like a newly
built one, even better than
all the previous buildings.
In the renovation
period, different religious
activities took place. In 1981,the
monastery began to hold various
Buddhist ceremonies.In 1982,the
commemorative ceremony for the
100th anniversary of the founding
of the monastery was held.
In
1985, for the first time in
the monastic history was held
the assembly of transmission
of Buddhist commandments. In
1990 the opening ceremony was
held for the great Sleeping
Jade Buddha in the Sleeping
Buddha Hall. In 1992, the 110th
anniversary of the founding
of the monastery was celebrated.
In November 1995, the ceremony
of opening the eyes took place
for over ten thousand jade Buddhas
and gold or gilded Buddhas,celebrating
the 80th birthday of Master
Zhen Chan and the ceremony of
his charity donation at the
same time.
In this period,
different monastic disciplines
and regulations were gradually
restored and perfected. The
masters who were forced to leave
during ¡°the Cultural Revolution¡±
were invited back one by one,
now there are over 100 monks
in the monastery. The monastery
also restored its tradition
of four divisions of Guesthouse,
Meditation Hall, Storehouse
and the Acolyte's Room. All
the monastic regulations and
rules are restored, and the
monastery is winning increasing
respect from the disciples both
at home and abroad.
