| On
the 10th December 1995, Master Zhen
Chan passed away suddenly, which was
totally unexpected for the whole monastery.
During this unusual time,Master Jue
Xing, supported by the old masters,
such as Ming Ru, Ai Pu, the lay Buddhist
Yin Bo, united the disciples in the
monastery, shouldered the task of
the monastic management courageously
and brought a new look to the monastery
in the management and faith advancement.
Few people knew the
fact that during this unusual time,
some masters and Buddhist disciples
overseas invited Master Jue Xing many
times to go abroad and promise him

Inheritance
of the Tradition, Adaptation to the
Contemporary Era
In Shanghai Buddhist
history there will be such a page:on
the 25th November 1999, Shanghai Jade
Buddha Monastery held a grand ceremony
to celebrate Master Jue Xing to be
the abbot. Master Jue Xing formally
became the 11th abbot of the monastery.
At 8:30, before
the ceremony, in the front of the
Great Shrine Hall, the eminent abbots
from both China and overseas came
to congratulate him, and the leaders
of related government departments
and China Buddhist Association also
attended the ceremony, with a warm
and happy atmosphere.
At the ceremony,
Master Jue Xing talked about his plan
for the development of the Jade Buddha
Monastery. He said that there were
two guiding principles. One was the
adaptation to the socialism with Chinese
characteristics to pray for the prosperity
of the country and the world peace;
the other was the adaptation to the
scientific and technological development,
that is, to disseminate Buddhism with
science and technology.
