Do
you often go back to visit your hometown
Huludao City in Northeast China since
being a monk for 16 years?
I have gone back
for three times all together 20 days
in the past 16 years.
The most influential
book to me is Master Xuan Zhang¡¯s
The Record of the West Trip in Tang
Dynasty (Da Tang Xi Yu Ji). I read
it almost everyday and I want to get
his wisdom and attain enlightenment.
As the abbot of the
Jade Buddha Monastery, as well as
vice-chairman of Shanghai Buddhist
Association, the representative of
the Municipal Congress, what do you
often do everyday?
¡°Take today as an
example (Feb.15, 2004), I got up at
5:00 and did the morning practice
from 5:30 to 6:30. Breakfast at 7:00.
I will deal with the routine work
of all departments and read newspapers
or receive guests from 8:00 to 11:00.
Lunch at 11:30. A nap at 12:00. I
will read the Buddhist Scriptures
from 13:00 to 15:00. Evening practice
from 16:00 to 17:00. Supper at 17:30
and then the newspapers reading. I
watch the CCTV-1 news at 19:00 and
sit in meditation from 20:00 to 22:00;
I will go through the Internet, read
books or write calligraphy from 22:00
to 23:00. And then go to bed at 23:00
