| Master
Jue Xing before me looks very young,
tall and strong in yellow Buddhist
gown. During the break of group discussion
at the CPPCC, I interviewed with this
youngest member of CPPCC from the
religious circles from Shanghai Jade
Buddha Monastery.
Master Jue Xing was
born in Huludao City, Liaoning Province
and grew up in the northeast area.
He became pious to Buddhism because
of the influence of his grandmother.
Then because the old masters Xin Yi,
Guang Xin and others in Shanghai Jade
Buddha Monastery directed him on some
occasions, he became a monk. After
he entered the monastery, the vast
accumulation of Buddhist sutras and
books attracted and fascinated him.
As he learned more, he began to understand
that he should seek the truth of Buddhism.
Only with the whole-hearted devotion
and abandonment of all desires could
he walk toward the way of enlightenment.
Master Jue Xing said that it was from
that time that he became clear about
what he should seek in his life. In
November 1999, Jue Xing after over
ten years of cultivation was elected
abbot of the Shanghai Jade Buddha
Monastery.
As the first abbot
of the Jade Buddha Monastery in the
21st century, a young abbot not so
many in the famous monasteries both
at home and abroad, Master Jue Xing
is very busy with many duties. Besides
the management and reception of foreign
visitors in the monastery, Master
Jue Xing also holds the posts of vice
chairman of China Buddhist Association,
vice chairman of Shanghai Youth Association,
the honorary chairman of Shanghai
Children's Home, advisor of Shanghai
Aged People Foundation, vice chairman
of Shanghai Charity Foundation, vice
chairman of Shanghai Anti-Cults Association.
These duties occupy a lot of his time.
In the mention of
the functions of the religious organizations
in friendly diplomatic exchange with
foreign countries, Master Jue Xing
gives the following speech that ¡°We
people in the religious circle should
fully play our role as the non-governmental
envoys.¡± He also says that as the
friendly exchanges of religious organizations
between China and other countries
are becoming increasingly extensive
and frequent, the personages of religious
circle can very often play some roles,
which the government officials can
not. Master Jue Xing once has taken
part in a talk with Albright, ex-Secretary
of State of the United States, and
Robinson, special senior envoy of
the Civil Rights Committee of the
United Nations. He has learned that
deeply from the talk. |
