Interview
with Master Jue Xing |
| Q: |
The life of a monk is hard and tedious, not easy to be understood. In addition, a monk has to give up so much and also face many difficulties the common people cannot imagine. What causes you to make such a decisive choice? |
| A: |
When
I had the idea of being a monk,
I did not understand the fundamental
doctrines of Buddhism completely.
However, when I was young, I often
heard from my devout grandmother
about human being's sufferings
of life (berth, senility, disease
and death), and cycles of life
and death. The confusion about
these questions caused me to secretly
decide to be a monk someday in
the future to seek the solutions
of these questions. After I became
a monk, the Buddhist sutras and
books were really a vast accumulation,
attracting and fascinating me.
In face of large quantities of
sutras, at the beginning, I read
and studied them only with personal
interest. As reading more, I realized
that only through my entire immersion
and devotion and abandonment of
all could I obtain the truth of
Buddhist dharma and find the way
towards the ultimate enlightenment.
It was from that time that my
goal of life became clear. Just
for this lofty ideal, I tried
my best to give up my dreams and
illusory seeks and became more
realistic. As I gradually understood
Buddhist doctrines and principles
in depth during my study at the
Buddhist College, I experienced
happiness and comfort both in
body and soul that I had never
got before. This kind of happiness
in spirit is irreplaceable with
any material enjoyment and is
just like the feeling of a thirsty
man's drinking, and only he knows
its cold or warm himself. |
