Interview
with Master Jue Xing |
| Q: |
At the beginning of the new millenium, how does Buddhism meet with the new century? Can you give any your personal comments? |
| A: |
3.
Carry forward the spirit of "compassion
and kindness and salvation of
all living creatures", make more
contributions to social charity
and public welfare with "the spirit
of transcendence to work for the
social causes". The development
of Buddhism is closely related
to the development of the country
and society. The existence and
necessities of the monasteries
come from all sides of the society,
therefore, we should repay society
and make contributions to society,
and this is an excellent tradition
of Shanghai Buddhist circle. I
myself have some ideas that within
our capacity, each year we will
do some practical things for the
social charity and welfare work,
such as to build the Hope Elementary
Schools, to give money for the
pupils and students from poor
and needed families, to help the
lay-off workers in poverty, and
so on, to carry forward the Buddhist
compassionate spirit and do good
things for people and share the
difficulties with the government.
The orientation for our Buddhist
development should be inheritance,
development and creation, in Buddhist
term, i.e. we should "adapt to
the situation with the unchangeable
spirit and remain immutable in
ever-changing situation" and follow
closely the steps of the times.
