To
Achieve the Accomplishments by Standing
Aloof from Worldly Affairs
--An interview of Master Jue Xing,
Chairman of Shanghai Buddhist Association
Pan
Zhen, the reporter
|
| |
Then
we witnessed the restoration
of the magazine Jue Qun originally
published before 1949, the establishment
of guiding principle of ¡®developing
the monastery with culture,
prospering the monastery with
education¡¯, reestablishment
of the Hong Yi Library initiated
by Ye Shentao and Feng Zikai
and today the first Buddhist
library in Shanghai. Moreover,
some national conferences such
as ¡®The consistency of Buddhism
and Socialism¡¯, ¡®City monasteries
and Buddhism in human world¡¯
have been held. ¡°The Buddhism
Culture Week¡± is held annually
and the books like Jue Qun Series
and Collections of Jue Qun Academic
Theses have been published.
Until recently, Jue Qun Edition
and Translation Office entitled
by Mr. Ji Xianlin has been in
operation and next year the
publication of Jue Qun Translation
Series can be expected¡ What
makes it different is that the
scope for consideration has
been expanded, the actions have
been varied. ¡°The Buddhist Association
as a patriotic group, should
coordinate and lead the Buddhism
activities.¡± said the newly
appointed Chairman. ¡°In the
past, Buddhism was only looked
as inciting and worshipping,
now it is regarded as a cultural
systematic project.¡±
The theme
of the newly printed quarterly
Jue Qun is brand new to us:
Buddhism and Shanghai Spirit.
Master Jue Xiang, in a article
with the same title as the theme
wrote, ¡°Buddhism should take
the social responsibility. ¡±
he believes that, ¡°Developing
Buddhism is just like the daily
work, while blessing the living
people is a career.¡± but how
to benefit people? Master Zhen
Chan¡¯s teaching is still resounding,
¡°Contact the society more, serve
the society and dedicate the
society¡±. Every year the Jade
Buddha Monastery has a budget
for charity and makes a follow-up
study on that.
