To Achieve the Accomplishments by Standing Aloof from Worldly Affairs
--An interview of Master Jue Xing, Chairman of Shanghai Buddhist Association

Pan Zhen, the reporter

And the running of the Hope Elemantery School is a very good example. Once it is established, its operation should under the supervision. That means the project should become into an entity in operation. This is called by Jue Xing as ¡®Good start with good result¡¯. The cooperation with Shanghai Charity Foundation and Shanghai Children's Home has continued successfully ever since Master Zhen Chan¡¯s time. Every year, 250000RMB is donated to support the children of the poor families to study from primary school to high school, another 200000RMB to the old and the families which are quite poor.

The Jade Buddha Monastery has always been the first monastery that leads the tides since the Republic of China (1912-1949). And today it is certainly the first pioneer in diplomatic matters. On May 18, 2000, Master Jue Xiang was invited by American States Council to visit the U.S as an international visitor. During his stay in the U.S, he noticed that those who hadn¡¯t any opportunities to visit China thought China was nothing different from the image of 1930s or 1940s. After Master Jue Xing¡¯s successful hospitalization of the former U.S Secretary of State AlBright, he proposed to change the passive diplomacy into active diplomacy. He suggests that the government invites more well known people and those who doubt about the development of China to come to China to ¡°communicate, converse and make dialogues ¡± and gets their mind changed through their experiences in China. Master Jue Xing mentioned smilingly that a few days before, the new ambassador of India presented him a set of 160 volumes of Buddhism Scripture in Pali (the first set of big Buddhism Scripture from India government) as a gift, also a reward to the warmest hospitalization hosted by the Jade Buddha Monastery last year.
