| ¡¾Activities of Eminent Masters¡¿ |

| The
Jade Buddha Monastery has attracted
a lot of eminent masters since its
foundation. They came here to spread
Buddha's teachings and lead Buddhists
in practice for promoting the prosperity
of the monastery.
¡¾Master Xu
Yun (1840¨D1959)¡¿
Master
Xu Yun (1840¨D1959) was from Tingxiang
in Hunan Province, whose family name
was Xiao and first name was Guyan.
His alias was Deqing. He was praised
for his Chan practice, austerity and
noble character. He may be reckoned
as one of representative figures of
Chan sect in modern China.
In the first lunar
month of 1953, the Jade Buddha Monastery
held a Buddhist ceremony of seven-day
Chan practice, inviting Master Xu
Yun to preside over it. He gave inspiration
to followers every day. What he said
was recorded by Yue Yao and Fo Yuan
and edited into Inspiration in
Seven-day Chan Practice of Eminent
Master XuYun. In the spring of
the same year, he presided over opening
ceremony of Jade Buddha statues.
