¡¾Activities of Eminent Masters¡¿

The Jade Buddha Monastery has attracted a lot of eminent masters since its foundation. They came here to spread Buddha's teachings and lead Buddhists in practice for promoting the prosperity of the monastery.

¡¾Master Xu Yun (1840¨D1959)¡¿

Master Xu Yun (1840¨D1959) was from Tingxiang in Hunan Province, whose family name was Xiao and first name was Guyan. His alias was Deqing. He was praised for his Chan practice, austerity and noble character. He may be reckoned as one of representative figures of Chan sect in modern China.

In the first lunar month of 1953, the Jade Buddha Monastery held a Buddhist ceremony of seven-day Chan practice, inviting Master Xu Yun to preside over it. He gave inspiration to followers every day. What he said was recorded by Yue Yao and Fo Yuan and edited into Inspiration in Seven-day Chan Practice of Eminent Master XuYun. In the spring of the same year, he presided over opening ceremony of Jade Buddha statues.
