Master
Di Xian (1858¨D1932) was from Huangyan,
Zhejiang Province, and his surname
is Zhu, first name Guxu, style Zhuosan.
He is never tired of explaining dharma
and teaching all his life. Master
Di Xian, the leading scholar of Tiantai
Sect. He is an expert of Buddhist
scriptures. He made great contribution
to the development of modern Chinese
Buddhism. Noble-minded as he was,
he had a large number of disciples.
He is, too, a very productive writer,
many of his works have been published,
such as Comments on the Explanation
of the Foreword of Surangama Samadhi
Sutra, Explanation to Sutra of Perfect
Mind, Brief Comment on Bodhisattva
Universal Worth's Vow, A Detailed
Study of the Comments on the Amitayus
Sutra, A Brief Explanation on the
Buddhist Essence, A Simplified Version
of the Universal Gateway, the Instant
Notes on the Mahayana Samadhi, Lecture
Notes on the Main Doctrines of Teaching
and Meditation, Notes on the Observation
of the Royal Confession, Comments
on the Explanation of the Confession
with Samadhi Water, and so on.
In 1931, he was
invited to explain Surangamasutra
and Sutra of Sixteen Meditations
(Aparimitayus-sutra) in the Jade
Buddha Monastery, which caused extensive
prosperity for a time.
