| The Bronze Buddha Hall and the Five Meditation House |
In
the Bronze Buddha Hall, there is a bronze Amitabha
Buddha in standing posture, it is said that was
made in the Ming dynasty. The sculpture is about
three meters high, his right-hand bends upward
in Abhayapradada sign, i.e. the bestowing of fearlessness
and confidence, and his left-hand stretches downward
in the varada mudra, i.e. a sign of willing to
grant. Amitabha is the Buddha of the West Paradise.
He has given forty-eight vows and wishes to all
the living creatures before his being Buddha.
Only if any one chants the name of Amitabha and
makes up his mind to cultivate himself, he will
go to the West Paradise after his death and is
reborn from a lotus flower. Therefore, the Pure
land belief is extremely popular among Chinese
common people.
A
short walk on from the Bronze Buddha Hall, there
is the Five Meditation Hall. The so-called ¡°five
meditations¡± are Meditation on the reality of
void, Meditation on purity, Meditation on the
wider and greater wisdom, Meditation on compassion
condition of the living and Meditation on mercy.
The Five Meditation Hall is the dining hall for
the monks.
