In
the Sleeping Buddha Hall of the Jade Buddha Monastery,
there are two Sleeping Buddhas. The big one was
carried back from Singapore by Master Zhen Chan,
the tenth abbot of the monastery and the Buddha
is 4 meter in length carved and polished with
a pice of whole jade stone.
The small sleeping Buddha
and the one in sitting posture in the Jade Buddha
Hall are brought back from Burma by the old master
Hui Gen. The small one is 0.96 meter in length,
exquisitely carved with green jade stone. The
sleeping Buddha is in kasaya with bare right shoulder
and right side in sleeping posture. His right
hand is bent under his head, and his left hand
along his left thigh. The posture is called ¡°auspicious
sleeping posture¡±.
The
Sleeping Buddha¡¯s countenance is serene, his eyes
open slightly and a smile on his mouth corners,
which shows the expression when Sakyamuni left
us quietly. The clothes of the sculpture look
like elegant texture quality for the smooth lines.
